Parents and Grandparents (PGP)


Canadian citizens and permanent residents can bring their parents and grandparents (PGP) for permanent residence with this stream. Under this program, the approved parent and grandparent will obtain Canadian permanent residence and will be able to apply for Canadian citizenship.

Eligibility Criteria and Required Documents


To Sponsor Under the Parent Grandparent Program (PGP) Canada There are certain eligibility criteria that a candidate has to meet in order to apply for parent sponsorship: • The sponsor should be of at least 18 years of age. • Should hold Permanent Residence/ Canadian Citizenship. • The sponsor should reside in Canada
• Must be willing to support and have sufficient money to support the persons you want to sponsor and fulfil their basic needs.
• Should submit the medical documents of sponsored (parents or grandparents).
• Should submit police clearance certificate of their (parents or grandparents).
• Must meet the requirement of Minimum Necessary Income (MNI).
• Must not receive any social assistance for reasons other than a disability.
• Must be free from previous sponsorship undertaking before applying
• Must not have any defaulted or any past sponsorship agreement. • Must submit the supplementary information on travels of the sponsored.

Under this Parent Grandparent Sponsorship (PGP) program, you can sponsor:



• Your parents or grandparents related by blood or adoption.
• You are eligible to sponsor both of your parents under a separate application in case they are separated (divorced).
• If one of your parent has a spouse, you can sponsor both of them, considering the fact that your parent will be the main applicant.
• Any dependent sister, brother, half brother, half-sister, stepbrother, or stepsister.
• You cannot sponsor your spouse’s parents or grandparents. You can be a consignee, and in that case your spouse needs to be the sponsor.

The Process


The process of sponsoring your parents and grandparents to become permanent residents of Canada through Parent Grandparent Program consist of 2 steps:
• Submit your Interest to Sponsor form to the IRCC when the application window opens. Once you receive the invitation, you have to collect all the specified documents to your profile and make two applications.
• One of the application will be for sponsorship which will be raised by you (the sponsor) and second application for Permanent resident status will be made by your parents or grandparents.
